Should I voluntarily relinquish my professional license because I am being investigated?

Speaker 1: As a general rule, you should never voluntarily relinquish your professional license after you have some notice of an investigation, even if you have licenses in other states. A voluntary relinquishment in the face of an investigation, once an investigation has been commenced, even if you don’t have knowledge of it, will be deemed to be the same as if your license had been revoked. It will be reported out to the national practitioner data bank, to all state and federal reporting entities and to your professional associations the same as if it had been revoked. Other states will also take action against you because that has occurred. Consult with a health care attorney before you make any decisions such as that.
